Bioeconomy Sciences & Technology

The bioeconomy is the economic activity derived from the production and use of renewable biological resources to provide products and services to the public. Biological resources (such as wood, plants, wood waste, agricultural waste, etc.) can be transformed into innovative products (biofuels, bioplastics, textiles, clothes, food additives, medicine, and more) using environmentally sustainable methods.

The Bioeconomy Sciences and Technology Major, offered by UBC’s Faculty of Forestry, focuses on the development of clean technology industries and the use of biological resources as substitutes for fossil fuels and carbon-intense processes addressing the continued need for energy, materials, products and innovation for a post-carbon society.

Why choose Bioeconomy Sciences and Technology?
